Letter Pairing as Abstract Form

Letter Pairing as Abstract Form

For this project, I created different abstract forms using letters with the help of Carl Dair’s Seven Typographic Contrasts. There were many ways that I could have placed the letters. I experimented with Futura, Proxima Nova, FF Tisa Sans and so much more. I made sure to experiment with all different typefaces and styles. The letters that I chose to experiment with are C,E,N,T and R. It was also hard in the beginning to choose letters because some letters were more interesting than the others. In the end, by seeing what fits and what doesn’t, I was able to pick out the final gif.

The Process
These are my process images. I experimented with every possible outcome and well as considering negative and positive space along the way.

After working on multiple iterations, I decided to animate the big T's. The typefaces that I used were Baskerville and Adobe Caslon to create my animation.
