Letter Pairing as Abstract Form

For this project I was playing with letters as abstract forms, finding unique qualities that typefaces held and working with contrast and negative space. I started by choosing 5 letters I found visually interesting, and making 25 variations of each, leaving me with 125 different letter forms. My goal was to build forms through the use of size, shape, and form contrast. When all the variations were completed I chose the top 5 most compelling forms, which happened to be one from each letter, and improved their compositions. I found it most intriguing to work with ball terminals as shapes as well as finding similarities in different letter forms. This led me to the last step which was animating my design, where I focused on how the two letters interacted with each other, and how their forms could create meaning in their movements, while still being playful.
