SHADES FROM GREEN
A Scale Model of an Extensive Green Roof on Urban Houses for an Aesthetic and Sustainable Architecture

Shades from Green is a green roof design concept. It showcases an open space above ones home that is covered with greenery which is the essential design of the artwork. Additionally, a platform with a trellis was also applied in order to have a lounging area outdoors for the area to be functional to human beings.

Due to the pandemic, people are not allowed to go out of their houses in order for them to be safe. Because of the situation, going outdoors is somewhat impossible, especially for citizens who live in urban areas, where open spaces are not that accessible. The design concept of Shades from Green showcases a roof garden design where humans can freely "go out" in the comforts of their own home. Not only it can help the wellbeing of humans, but also it is space efficient, and helps environmental aspects as well by reducing urban heat island effect, air and noise pollution, and provides stormwater management.

This floor/roof plan of Shades From Green was created using SketchUp layout software. Before transferring the design plan, it was initially sketched. The focus of this design concept is the exterior design, the roof itself. The interior had proper dimensions, but the artist wanted to solely present the initial design.

As shown in the roof design above, it contains the design's dimensions with a scale of 1:50 and labels as the location of the vegetation layer and platform.

The elevation is drawn in a front view perspective. Here, we can see the 2D version of the whole structure. It contains proper dimensions with a scale of 1:50.

With the guide of the rough sketches, floor plan, and elevation creating a 3D model would be easy when it comes to its dimensions. SketchUp, as well, makes rendering easy. With a 3D design of the structure we can easily visualize on how it may appear when creating the same design in real life, thus, creating a scale model would be easily executed.

Finally the scale model. The scale model has a scale of 1:50, its material is mainly Sintra board (3mm) especially for the roof and floors, and acrylic glass for the windows and glass fences. Popsicle sticks were also used in the design; for the platform, trellis and fence. The popsicle sticks' gives better wood texture than sticker papers. Sticker papers were used to cover the gaps, caused by cutting and pasting the materials together, on the structure and also to give texture to other objects such as the couch. Artificial grass was used for the vegetation layer.
