ARTS-532: Isometric Illustration

ARTS 532 - Vector Illustration
Project 1: Isometric Illustration
I chose to illustrate aspects of the electric utility industry. I wanted to create something that would work as in infographic illustration inside an annual report. Each item within the design is created on an isometric grid. I made the decision to not make the infographic icons scaled to size. For instance, the computer monitor is almost the same size as the utility poles. I did this to give each piece of information the same level of importance. I also think it helped with readability. Since this is not a typical scene, I was able to integrate a plug and cord throughout the background to tie the whole layout together. It is also encompassed within a circle to keep the information contained. I tried to add depth for the 3D structure though the use of shadows and color. The one thing that I found difficult, was the making of rounded objects (like the light bulb) look like they had the same effect. When I used the same skew and rotation action, the round portion didn’t quite fit in. I tried to reconcile that with the use of color.

Project Overview: Create an illustration using isometric style. The illustration should demonstrate a mastery of the isometric style, aesthetics, compositional principles, and illustrator tools.
