Creative Strategies Lightbulb Digital Compositions

I was assigned to visually represent an everyday object, using the seven creative strategies: Combination, Juxtaposition, Isolation, Metaphor or Simile, Change of Context or Environment, Physical/Shape Similarity, and Material Change, Swap, or Focus. I chose to visually represent a lightbulb, because they are diverse objects. Lightbulbs come in many different shapes, colors, and sizes. Lightbulbs also symbolize intelligence, ideas, energy, light, and other things.

"All Bottled Up Inside"  Category: Change of Context or Environment

This was a fun composition. I really liked the idea of substituting a lightbulb for a ship in a bottle. Both lightbulbs and bottles are clear glass. This composition contrasts with the natural state, or environment, of a lightbulb.

"A Touch of Elegance" Category: Material Change, Swap, or Focus

This composition combines two different forms of light fixtures.

 I love this concept because it is a light fixture with many lightbulbs, inside of a bigger lightbulb. I think if I saw this light fixture in real life, I would like it in my own home.

"Illuminate Me" Category: Isolation

This composition has lots of negative space, so that the focus is drawn to the word illuminate. When there is such a prominent focal point, it becomes very isolated from the rest of the composition. I liked this concept because it reminded me of neon signs.

"Brain Freeze" Category: Juxtaposition

I really like this concept, and I find it humorous and ironic. I always called these types of lightbulbs ice cream bulbs. It was easy to swap the shape of the soft serve swirl, with the twisty bulb, because of the similar shapes and color.

"Feelin Groovy" Category: Combination

Combination is a strategy to combine two different things together. Although lava lamps and lightbulbs do have some similarities, they have very different textures. I have always thought that lava lamps were fun to look at, because of the constant state of motion.

"Grow Your Ideas" Category: Metaphor/Simile

The idea behind this metaphor, is that it takes time to develop/grow ideas. A good idea shines brightly, and is worth the effort.

"Isolation" Category: Physical Shape Similarity

Fish bowls and lightbulbs look similar. I thought it would be fun to put a goldfish inside a lightbulb. I chose this particular fish because he looked kind of lonely.
