OutRun Monitoring Insole

The Problem
The problem with barefoot running is the lack of knowledge available to new barefoot runners.
The transition period between shod and barefoot running is a very slow and high injury risk process, but how to preform and monitor progress is not something the average runner knows how to do.
By creating a way for a runner to evaluate and monitor their progress, we can teach the proper technique and transitioning process. This will dramatically lower the risk of injury and provide a better way of monitoring a barefoot runner.

OutRun
OutRun is a product that aids the user in transitioning to barefoot running. It uses an impact monitoring system and an adjustable support system to drastically reduce the risk of injury and encourages the correct technique.
It can be used in conjunction with an app to monitor the user’s progress long-term and create good training programmes and practices.
Research
As most barefoot runners are amateurs, they do not have the same career pressure as professional runners. This can easily discourage them for using a product if the product is bothersome or uncomfortable to use.
The process of using the product needs to blend seamlessly into the user’s routine to encourage them to continue using the product. By researching the users routine, the product can be designed to specifically fit into their training.
Prototype
Creating sketch models from early in the design process helped to develop and test iterations of the design. By testing and changing aspects, the design of the insole could be perfected.
App Interface
To display the information collected using the insole, an app was created to monitor and track the user’s process.
The app will also create custom training session and suggest exercises and drills for the user to correct form and running technique.
