This 12 panel instructional illustration teaches the beginner tips on painting their nails, without overwhelming. It would appear as a folded up insert inside nail polish packaging.

Panels were storyboarded with post-it notes while the overall drawing style was being discovered. Many steps that were not completely necessary were highly simplified or taken out of the sequence for simplicity and clarity, as these instructions are intended for complete beginners. 

Drawing studies were conducted first by tracing images of hands, and then working to reduce the complexity to a fitting style.

A more realistic rendering of the hands was chosen to help aid in the clarity of the instructions, paired with imperfect panel borders and minimal color palette to decrease the feeling of perfectionism a beginner might feel. 

Visual languaging was carefully considered and revised throughout the whole sequence to ensure that no words were needed at any point in the instructions.
