This final project for class was genuinely a blast! Students were prompted to use the Adobe suite to format the type and create illustrations. Students were also required to design the cover, spine, and back. At least four illustrations were required for the inside of the text, so I created illustrations for every other chapter in the infamous book, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

For my project, I chose to take a different approach to the project, and create a modernized version of my selected book. Since The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes came out in 1892, I though it would be enjoyable to update everything ranging from the type faces to the illustration style. For the text, I chose to use a san-serif font to add to modernization of the text, which is a slightly bold move since most books use serif fonts to increase legibility.

I am very happy with the risks I took to complete this project as well as enjoyed learning how to proficiently use Adobe InDesign. I used Adobe Illustrator to complete my illustrations and then used Adobe Photoshop to curate my mock-ups!
The typeface I used was called "Gotham" and was used on the inside and outside of the book to keep the designs uniform. The illustration style which is also used inside and out, is similar to color blocking. It is used throughout the book with intentions of achieving this modern take in a cohesive way.
