It’s not often we find our calendars empty and our hearts aching. My sister is in Australia, my dad lives in New York, I started school in Pennsylvania, but here I am in California. I found it all mundane, the day to day sameness. A puzzle here, a walk there, a trip to the beach that is the highlight of the last six months.
Then I started baking, I found ways to bring the kitchen to life. I started calling people to share it with. They would come and stand outside and eat and talk and laugh. Little pieces of my heart felt full again.
Soon I’ll see my dad and sister, someday I’ll meet my classmates and go on adventures. All of that will warm my heart. But on the longest quarantine days it was seeing someone smile and share the love over one cookie at a time.
