For almost 140 years the Welsh rugby team has battled proudly on the international stage.
Full of tales of fighting clergymen, poisoned arrows and deathbed confessionals, James Stafford’s An Illustrated History of Welsh Rugby takes a unique look at the games, the players, the legends and the myths behind Wales’s national game.
For this book I created 80 digital illustrations depicting events, players, and more. Most of them began with a rough pencil sketch, which I then scanned and inked in Adobe Illustrator.
The illustrations pay homage to the editorial cartoons of late 19th and early 20th century sports journalism.
