The Book
I’m not much of a reader so I decided to go with a cookbook called The Seasoned Life by Ayesha Curry. I was born and raised in the Bay Area so of course I am a fan of the Warriors and the Curry family. I love food, and I’ve recently been getting into cooking more since ordering take-out a lot can be way too expensive. And sometimes a home cooked meal is better! The thing I like about Ayesha’s book is that it is very family oriented and shows the importance of food bringing families together.
The Inspiration
I knew right away I wanted to do something with seasonings and/or spices since the book title is "The Seasoned Life." So it was only fitting, right?
The Process
Since the seasonings and spices were going to be a little messy, I bought a $1 cardboard poster to have as a big canvas. To decide on what ingredients to use for the type, Ayesha Curry had noted at the end of her book on which ones are needed in the kitchen - ground cinnamon, ground black pepper, paprika, and cayenne.  I wanted the word "seasoned" to stand out so I mixed the paprika, cayenne and cinnamon to give that pop of color. I typed/printed out the title with the font SignPainter into Pages to use it as a guide to spell out the words with the ingredients. I definitely made it difficult on myself by not cutting out the letters and making it an actual stencil. I poured the ingredients onto the page and used the skewer to move things around, and eventually had visible words! Lighting is very important when it comes to photos so thankfully I had a desk lamp hiding in my closet to get good shots of the final product. The process was very tedious, but I loved the challenge!
The Background
I chose a cutting board type of background because where else would you prepare your seasoned/spiced meals?
