Colon Cancer Awareness PSA

Colon Cancer Awareness Public Service Announcement

This campaign was an experiment in minimalism, seeing how tight I could make the design and the messaging. I wanted to create something very pared down and lean, yet still have it be impactful and able to communicate a message.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death. It's on a dramatic rise among young people--and scientists aren't sure why. It can often grow unchecked for years in younger victims without being detected because the symptoms are mistakenly attributed to other things. My target demographic was people from the ages of 35 to 50, younger than the traditional audience for a colonoscopy campaign. I wanted to focus on the symptoms that, if present, should motivate a younger person to get screened.

For fun, I also tried a few other approaches. I've included one of those campaigns for comparison to the "official" pieces. It's a lighter-hearted take on minimalism, embracing the silliness of talking about butts.

On a personal level, if you have colon cancer symptoms, get screened. It's embarrassing and inconvenient, and you can probably come up with a hundred reasons why it can't happen to you, but none of that matters if you actually have it. Colon cancer is very treatable if caught early. If you see yourself in these symptoms, talk to your doctor.
