Plans to Purpose | Spring 2021

For this "overnighter" project, we were tasked with illustrating the phrase "show failure in a positive light"—in three days. The assignment was given on Friday around noon and was due Monday at 10 a.m.
I chose to base my concept specifically around failure regarding one's plans. Often in life, what seems to be an unsuccessful pursuit actually leads a person to an amazing opportunity that is even better than the original objective.
The failure is represented by the closed door that someone has unsuccessfully tried to open.
The forlorn doorknob lies in the grassy field where the person’s greater purpose stands.
Sometimes, as humans, we become so focused on the failed plans that we miss seeing our beautiful surroundings and the purpose they might hold for us.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps” (ESV). We can strive to arrive at the door to our plans and try to force the failed doorknob to work, but God’s purpose for us will ultimately prevail, especially as we seek Him.
This illustration is a reminder to not get so fixated on the plans we make in our hearts that we miss the purpose God has for us or the beauty of life along the way.
