Assignment Three: Neighborhood Posters
For this project, we started by researching a local neighborhood and building a presentation about its history and any contradictions that may be prevalent within it. As a San Diego resident, I chose to do La Jolla, a perfect community that is an epicenter for all things shopping, luxury and of course, its world-renowned beach culture. However, despite its pristine look on the outside, La Jolla stands for so much more. It's uncommon history refers to it being the cultivater of art, history and activism within San Diego. This is the element that I chose to focus on for this project, I wanted to create something that spoke to the La Jolla aesthetic, while also paying tribute to its social activism and culture.

Explanation of Poster:
I wanted the image to be reflective of a window display or store front. The words "La Jolla" are a solid holographic element meant to draw the viewers eye and illicit a feeling of luxury. The subheader reads, 'More Than Meets The Eye" which is meant to indicate the way La Jolla contradicts itself from its image to its roots.

As you look around, you can see the beach blanket is covered with an image of a social walk out that took place in La Jolla this last summer to raise awareness for the Black Lives Matter Movement. The surfboard, a popular indicator of La Jolla's beach culture, is covered with the symbol of the 'Green Dragon,' which is a critical element of La Jolla's art history. It was an art movement that was prevalent during the original artist colony and is now used as themes and inspiration for art shows and museums in La Jolla today. Finally, the shopping bag in the front represents the luxurious shopping that's offered, however on top it reads "La Jolla Historic Society" which is an institution that highlights the history, culture and background of this town as a whole.
Conclusion:
The design concept of this project was not necessarily the hard part, it was more working with Adobe Dimensions that provided the challenges. I love the idea of 3D modeling and using it as a design technique, and I am excited to continue to progess in my skills and make engaging projects through this platform.
