Pen and ink scratchboard project, designed to help inform beachgoers about the very sensitive nesting activity of common terns, happening right on the sand. This project is inspired by my years of bird stewarding for North Carolina Audubon. I enjoyed the painterly qualities that scratchboard allows, combined with the incredibly fine detail, full range of values and ability to layer textures.

As part of this project, I researched the nesting practices of common terns on the Atlantic coast, made a number of exploratory sketches, wrote the text, and designed the handout.
