ASSIGNMENT – ALTERNATIVE TITLE SEQUENCE
Aim: This assignment requires students to create an alternative title sequence for a Film or TV Series of own choice.  The video must incorporate a continuous flow of the storyline of what the Film or TV Series is about and foreshadowing the theme without giving away important plot points.
Title sequences are a powerful expression of motion graphics. They are a prelude to the movie. They engage the audience by hinting at what is about to start, whether it’s a movie, TV show, or Web animation. More than that, title sequence also includes key casts and crews that involved in the production.
For this assignment, I have chosen to make an alternative title sequence for the film Abominable released in 2019. DreamWorks Animation and Pearl Studio’s co-production Abominable takes audiences on an epic 2,000-mile adventure from the streets of a Chinese city to the breathtaking Himalayan snowscapes.
The film tells the story of a teenage Yi and her two friends embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family after discovering a Yeti on the roof of her apartment building. But to do so, they must stay one step ahead of a wealthy financier and a determined zoologist who want to capture the beast for their own gain.
Below is the original title sequence for the film specifically the ending title sequence.
The original ending title only consists of still images, transitioning from one to another with the full credits of the production of this film. The reason for me creating an alternative title sequence for this film was that Abominable is a beautiful and magical film and I would want to add a bit of interactive elements inside the title sequence.
Below is the final piece of my creation of the film's title sequence.
CONCEPTS & INSPIRATION

The concept of the alternative title sequence is to show the audience some of the highlight elements, characters, surroundings or objects, that will appear in the film itself without giving away the actual storyline in a minimalist and distinct colorful tone.
Inspiration

Before I started anything, I actually went to YouTube platform to look at other people’s work on how they create their title sequence using motion graphics. There was one title sequence that caught my attention and I found it interesting. It was a motion graphic title sequence created by Elvi Felicia of the film “The Secret Life of Pets”.
That particular title sequences were created by using illustration of the main characters that appear in the film itself along with small interactions for each scene. I got inspired and wanted to create something similar like that title sequence yet with different way of illustration.
ELEMENTS

Below are some screenshots of the alternative title sequence accompanied with annotations to explain their significance in the film.
This screen shows the city where the main characters lives. The lights of the buildings and spotlights that appears are used to indicate that it is a busy city. It is also an important key place as this is where the story begins and where the yeti was captured and imprisoned.
This screen is to introduce the audience on how the yeti looks like, a cute and friendly yeti.
This screen shows snow flakes falling which represents places with cold weather took place in the film. It is also a weather which the yeti love.
This screen shows a picture of Mount Everest which is the home of the yeti. Yi, one of the main characters, named the Yeti “Everest”. Yi and her friends made a journey to Mount Everest to bring the yeti home to help the yeti reunites with his family.
This screen shows a violin playing songs. It is to tell the audience that there is a used of violin in the film and for this case, Yi, one of the main characters, is a violinist.
This screen is to show a significant food that appears in the film. As the film takes place in Shang Hai, the appearance of Bao, a delicious Chinese cuisine, is used to show the culture of the city where the main characters live.
This screen shows bushed with blueberry popping out gradually. It is to indicate that Yi and her friends, along with the yeti came across a forest where blueberry is found there and they had blueberry as their food.
This screen is used to represent the yeti Everest’s mystical powers. The violin of Yi, one of the main characters, also have this magical element. The color used is the same as the one used in the film.
This screen shows the blooming of a yellow flower. It indicates a field of yellow flowers, which the yeti, Everest causes to blossom to gargantuan sizes as the Yi and her friends escape from Burnish Industries, the people who captures Everest from the first place, across the Yellow River.
That's all from me. Hope you like my work!
Thank You :)
