While I have played video games for a significant portion of my life, I have not spent much or any time playing horror games. The immersive nature of the games make the level of fear and adrenaline evoked beyond what I’ve experienced from other media involving the horror genre. For these reasons and more, I have chosen Phasmophobia, a co-op psychological horror game released in September of 2020, as the subject for my short film. Phasmophobia is a ghost “hunting” or investigation game that involves searching through various buildings to find evidence of supernatural activity. The setting is dark, eerie, and punctuated by visual and audio jump-scares that cause a constant feeling of trepidation. 

I have chosen clips from my own gameplay with a friend and tried to capture the haunting and hair-raising nature of Phasmophobia. Using audio taken from the game itself as well as other horror-inspired tracks, I tried to build tension and anticipation by using music that swelled and paused in time with the video. I would consider this a type of teaser to inspire viewers to play the game, and intended it to be similar to a horror movie trailer. This video was created in Adobe Premiere, and utilizes various video transitions and techniques in an attempt to create a cohesive whole. The game footage was captured using a recording software called OBS Studio, and the sound was sourced from Incompetech, Filmmusic, Mixkit, and Myinstants. (Sources included below).
