The healthcare institution serves individuals experiencing behavioral health and substance use disorder issues, and Helio Health implemented the initiatives when the COVID-19 pandemic threatened the health of both healthcare professionals and patients.

Helio Health said two of the greatest challenges for its patients seeking healthcare are transportation and childcare. By giving the patients iPads, the individuals could receive treatment virtually, which resolved the transportation issue and also made it easier for parents to attend appointments. Helio Health purchased the computers using funds from the Federal Communications Commission's telehealth fund, which it received in 2020.
