'Absence' is a group mapping project by five final year students at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. The project explores the use of technology in the precint of Southbank, Queensland, home to many outdoor attractions along the Brisbane River. Over the course of a month the team mapped out the use of technology during two days and three peak hour periods: 8am, Noon, and 5pm.

Surverying the use of all technological activity (e.g. smart phones, tablets and or laptops) the group then plotted this information by hand onto large watercolour paper sheets. A grid was pin-pricked into the stock and circular rings were embossed to represent the use of tecnology. Colour was then added through paint to represent human activity. The posters show the direct relationship between both sets of information and provide viewers with an artistic expression of the current technocentric culture many live in.

The final work has a strong handmade look, buts its true messages lie deep in the detail.
