In Time

Abstract

IN TIME is a concept that changes the way a flight journey is experienced. The exploration and analysis showed that today, the experience of flying is pervaded by several waiting situations of different kinds. The passenger has little control over his journey and has no other choice than to enqueue into the stream of passengers. One rarely ever misses a flight but everyone at the airport seems to be afraid of being too late.

We analyzed the characteristics of the different waiting situations and developed strategies to
change the experience of the specific situations. In addition to that, we have taken a look into
the structural process that a passenger has to go through at the airport and pointed out oppor-
tunities to shorten and restructure waiting times.

The IN TIME app is an important part of the developed concept. With IN TIME we give pas-
sengers the opportunity to take back the control over their own journey. The app provides
information about waiting times, passenger volumes and general information about airport
processes. Having this real time information at hand, the passenger can organize his route to
the gate and plan where and when to spend extra time.

Conclusion

With IN TIME we have created a concept that could go live in two to five years. Technology
like NFC, indoor navigation and –orientation can enhance the service and make it more
precise. But even with the data, information and technology that is available today, a ser-
vice with huge impact on how we experience travelling can be created.

It is a great challenge to create a service that is of use for majority of passengers. The
needs are very diverse. Some customers would like to know about shopping offers and is
very interested about refunds, while others connect such information with advertisement
and spam. Linking user profiles with profiles from social networks such as Facebook and
Twitter offers opportunities to help create a much more personal and custom-tailored ex -
perience.
creating an app that passengers use during the time at the airport allows SWISS to stay in
contact where has not yet been possible. Being in every passengers pocket and proving
to take care and be of use creates a foundation that can be built up on.
