During colonization many Indigenous people lost family heritage linked to their names, undermining their sense of identity. This campaign encourages more indigenous people to reclaim and use their traditional names. The campaign also serves as a platform for people to share their stories about the impact of lost identity with the general public. This increased awareness can, in turn, spur action to change government regulations about naming in Canada.
