This personal project was inspired by a DIY project a friend did.
She created dog toys that floated in the water by sewing tarp sacks filled with used corks.
I wanted to create my own version but make it more whimsical by shaping it like a shark.
As I didn’t find a sewing pattern I liked I created my own.
I started out by exploring the shape and construction through a paper prototype.
Once I was happy with that I created my first version out of tarp filled with cork.
This was already very popular with the dogs who got to test it but the material wasn’t optimal as it quickly got holes.
This is why I decided to rework it in other fabrics to make more sturdy stuffed animal toys.
In the process I also slightly changed some of the shape and sewing steps.
While doing this I also noted them down and created a proper sewing pattern in order to make the design re-creatable.
