Gemla Fabrikers

The project background
Gemla Fabrikers was founded in 1891 and is Sweden's oldest furniture manufacturer.
It is located in the small village of Diö by the river Helgeå where you will encounter a rich history, characterized by inventiveness as well as stubbornness. Said to be typical of the region of Småland.

Gemla is a very established brand and sell to big companies like Liseberg, but when it comes to individual sales they are not as established.

This is where we come in. During several weeks we studied Gemla looking at their current target audience, competition and what could come to effect these. Some of the biggest factors to consider was of course the ongoing pandemic and the environmental crisis we are still dealing with in the world. The Gemlas consumers want furniture that lasts a lifetime and that can be restored instead of buying new. Its also very important that the right material is used. Not only in the furniture but also during shipping and handling.

Our task was to redesign their packaging solution to be more practical for their new target group. Making it easier for them to return the product if needed. We also helped them figure out how to reduce the use of plastic
Along with the new packaging solution we were also given the task to redesign their logo and website to reach their new target group.
