Stephen King Cover Redesigns

A thirty title series of cover designs for Penguin Random House reimagining Stephen King's most popular works.
Penguin Random House Argentina approached us to illustrate and design the covers of Stephen King’s most memorable works.
Reimagining famous titles such as IT, Carrie, and the Shining was no small task. With over 30 years of pop culture influence through books, television, and movies, King’s stories have completely permeated the horror genre zeitgeist. We quickly discovered that there is no depiction of Pennywise that could be more frightening than Tim Curry’s performance, nor the primal fear one would feel with Cujo pacing outside their car. Our solution was to replicate the suspense that King build’s in his novels by using black on black printing to conceal and then reveal the novel’s antagonist. Like the creature hiding under the bed, the scariest monster is the one we can’t see.
Our final challenge required us to design a cover template that would hold up across 30 novels, accommodating for a variety of title lengths and spine widths.
