Project Date 2013
For Who?
General Services Administration

Project Date: July 29 - Aug 30, 2013

Role
- Lead interviewer with client for requirements
- Lead UI, theme designer
- Liferay Portal developer (CSS, HTML, graphics, vm files, coordinated on content)

Purpose: Educational training library portal: Customized search for GSA centric users and video library.

Challenge:
Entering as the third team in attempting to complete an overdue portal project for the GSA. The cllient requested a "Hulu feel" that would have a skin/template that reduced "eye glare" and strain for daily users, custom search and filters and a video library, similar to Hulu.

Results
Our small team came under budget and ahead of schedule, with a new portal, with a clean, mimimalist styled template.  Using white as the hover, inverses web tradition, and produces a fresh, new and attractive visual approach to design, reducing 'white glare' on the page, and allowing white in only the areas that good legibile contrast is needed.  Using Liferay 6.1, Techflow was given the project to create both custom functionality and a new theme for The General Services Administation's (GSA) Electronic Centralized Acquisition Tool (eCAT).  Multiple "themes" (templates/skins) were produced, with multiple styled portlets for different content container needs.  At final delivery for the first iteration of this project, a small team gave the client a clean and functional portal with custom functionality, ready for uploading training videos and documentation, as well as, searching, tagging by terms and subscribing for email notifications.
Final Design Choice -  'Clean' Design with Tab (client's description as first choice)
Different Header Designs - Not Chosen
Flat Design (Mimimalist, Monotone) - Not Chosen
