LOGO REDESIGN PROJECT: Literacy Prince George
I joined with PGL under a college internship of sorts, they were looking to redesign and modernize their logo alongside the inclusion of some basic items such as business cards. Before building this logo I was given the impression that PGL was essentially geared towards both adults and children, so ensuring that the logo would be appropriate for both age groups was paramount. I made a mental note to shoot for something "fun" enough for a child, but mature enough that an adult wouldn't feel infantilized (it was noted that many adults felt embarrassed about attending literacy training programs)

During the building process I kept falling back on the lightbulb. The lightbulb has often been used to represent epiphanies, and I felt like this would be a suitable graphic for a business that centers around literacy. Unfortunately this wasn't enough to sell the concept, so I decided to have him leap out of a textbook to better link the "epiphany"" that comes with acquired knowledge / learning. As you can see below, I played around with many variations before landing on my finalized design.
For the last stage of the project I threw together a simple business card design that could be reworked to fit new and current employees. PGL wanted to put more emphasis on their colours so I made sure to dedicate at least half of the available space for a splash of purple. I also added in a subtle repeat pattern centered around educational items to break up the empty white space in the background. Upon completion these were then sent off to a local printer for immediate production. All in all this was a very successful project, and the client was more than pleased.
