The End FGM European Network (End FGM EU) is a European umbrella network of 30 organisations working to ensure sustainable European action to end female genital mutilation. The Network strives to build bridges and cooperation’s with all relevant actors in the field of FGM both in Europe and globally.

In 2020, End FGM EU ran its Annual Campaign focused on debunking myths and misconceptions about Female Genital Mutilation. When they asked for help to create a video that would summarise this movement, there wasn’t really any doubt from my part. This is such an important issue and it was a pleasure to collaborate and actively participate in this fight.
We started by working together on a script and once that was locked in, I started creating some style frames to get the look and feel of the video. FGM is a very sensitive issue and you need to careful when talking about it as so to not trigger anyone who might have gone through it.
I opted for a straightforward approach: we present one myth with a question and then we debunk it through pleasant and clear visuals, accompanied by soft music and a soothing voice over. I kept the design minimal and infographic, with light and pastel colours and a couple of textures that gave a bit of warmth to the video.
I hope you like it, but most importantly, I hope you can learn and be more aware of the myths and stereotypes we so often perpetuate without thinking.
