Peacock Dance from West Java

West Java, Indonesia have the wealth of traditional culture, especially in a traditional dance. Expression of motion is the main medium of dancing. During the art of dance spread in West Java, it can be divided into several segments including Puppets dance (Wayang), Folk dance, Cirebon Mask dance and clumps of individual work that is often referred to as creations dance/courses dance. Creation dance is a new creation and doesn’t always come from a dance that already exists, but also required to create a new motion in it. Generally, creation dance inspired by folktale, legends, imitative of animals or a new intuition of imagination from the artist’s. Peacock dance was created by Raden Tjetje Somantri. This dance has attracted the international community in the 1960′s. But tragically now it gets a less attention from most of the Indonesian people, especially teenager. So that continuity and exploration in the creation of this traditional dance do not evolve and deceased over to time.
