Inspired by Saki Mafundikwa’s mention of the Ghanaian Sankofa (“return to the past”) in his book Afrikan Alphabets: The Story of Writing in Afrika, this creative research began as an ethnological study of languages from oral traditions to graphical systems of communication. It later evolved into finding one's national identity, and the question of what role did two separate cultures morphing into one identity produce. Society tends to ignore what isn’t innovative or helping advance our lifestyle.
This project speaks to the importance of encouraging other designers to be more aware of other cultures that could benefit from our practice. Graphic design as a discipline is always changing; the new technology being created has a tremendous effect on our work.
Referenced cultural awareness through her solid family connections to ancestors and melded this to contemporary designs
