Minnesota Food Charter
Client: Minnesota Department of Health

The Minnesota Food Charter is a broad-based public process that will result in a document that
ensures Minnesotans will have healthy, affordable, and safe food. It will help build a legacy of health for
future generations.

“The Minnesota Food Charter will ensure we have healthy, affordable, and safe food;
building a legacy of health for future generations. Together we will understand where we need to
go to improve access to healthy food and what it will take to get us there. By clearly identifying
Minnesota’s principles and priorities around access to healthy food, the Food Charter will shape
policies that affect schools, workplaces, healthcare settings, childcare centers, and many other
places that food is produced, processed, distributed and consumed.”

Identity System
The identity system for the Food Charter needed to be genuine and inviting while also needed to express many different concepts: health, prosperity, eating, community, helping hand, agriculture, and new possibilities. The dinner set has a duality to it: the main significance is to express the concept of food and communion through food, and the second being that of a sun rising; a new dawn.

The farm land / rolling hills express the concept of the earth and of agriculture, with sustainable and healthy production of food. These concepts culminate with the hand that is supporting everything—community and collectively working towards a better future. Everything is enclosed within a circle to represents the cyclical nature of community and food, each step goes hand in hand.

Style Guide
The style guide for the Food Charter needed to set the tone and appearance of the charter. The basis of the whole initiative is to express authenticity. To be genuine and inviting. In addition to the tone of the Food Charter, the style guide gives proper usage of the logo, typography, images, graphics and overall brand of the Food Charter.
Website
The Food Charter website is the central hub of the initiative. People can learn about: what the Food Charter is, getting involved, and peoples stories. The site provides the user an opportunity to search and register for Food Charter meetings in their city or neighboring city, or to submit their own Food Charter event.

In addition to registering or hosting events, the system allows for the user to submit their feedback on events or provide any other comments or concerns that are relative to the initiative as a whole.
