About project:
The design calendar "Memento mori " for 2021 is inspired by Ancient Roman mythology and history.
In this project, each month represents a particular god or ruler just as it was in the Roman calendar.

"Memento mori" - ancient Romans uttered this phrase during the triumphal processions when warlords returned with victory, to remind them that glory does not make them immortal. Remembering their mortality protected them from committing rash acts. We also need such reminders. A person should not forget that they are not eternal, and try not to waste their time in vain. In the face of death, which is an absolute and inevitable end that awaits us all as well as it marks the limit of our possibilities, we are obliged to make the most of our allotted time of life. We have no right to miss any of the given opportunities which combined make our life full of meaning.

Where is the line between the past and the future, where is the threshold between the beginning and the end? will there be an entrance in and an exit out at the same time?
Janus - the ancient Roman god of time, the patron of all endeavors, the god of doors and gates. He was depicted with two faces: one looking into the past, the other into the future. His two-face is a symbol of omniscience, penetration through time and space. The eternal dream of a person to see the future, without losing sight of the past, harmoniously enjoying the present.

It is foolish to make plans for the rest of your life without even being the master of tomorrow
Februs was the god of purification. The rites of purification, which fell on the feast of Lupercalia (February 15), fell on the full moon according to the old Roman lunar calendar. These rites coincided with the Lupercalia, a festival in honor of the god Faun. Because of this coincidence, the two gods (Faun and Februs) were often treated as one character.

When we are born, we die, and the end is determined by the beginning
Mars is the god of war. According to legend, his children, raised by a wolf, Romulus and Remus, founded Rome. The warlike Romans revered the fierce and domineering god of war, Mars, as the ancestor of their people. The third month of the year, March, was named after him. The first day of spring, the ancient Romans considered the most suitable for the start of new military battles.

Our mistake is that we look at death as a future event. Most of the death has already occurred: the time that is behind us is in her possession.
Aprilis comes from the Latin aperire – "to open", as in this month the buds on the trees open, or from the word apricus – "warmed by the Sun". This month was marked by a series of festivals dedicated to aspects of rural life, as it was a busy month for farmers

Injustice is not always associated with any action; it often consists in inaction.
Maya is descended from the Italian Maiesta, the patroness of the fertility of the earth. Maya was revered as the wife of Vulcan or the mother of Mercury, and became the eponym of the month of May. Only women were allowed in her temples and in the mysteries dedicated to her, and the real name of the goddess was taboo.

The gods have arranged it so that anyone can take our life, but no one can save us from death.
Juno is the goddess of marriage and birth, family, and female productive power. The month of June was named after Juno. It was believed that it was at this time that the earth reached its highest peak in its powers. Often the goddess was associated with the forces of the soil, fertility and moisture, which is why she was especially revered by farmers who brought generous gifts to her temples.

Great initiatives do not even need to be considered, you need to get down to business, otherwise, noticing the difficulty, you will retreat.
Originally, the month was called Quintilis (Latin quintus — "five". Later it was renamed in honor of Gaius Julius Caesar, who was born in this month. Gaius Julius Caesar was an ancient Roman statesman and politician, dictator, general, and writer. With his conquest of Gaul, Caesar expanded the Roman empire to the shores of the North Atlantic and subjugated the territory of modern France to Roman influence, as well as launched an invasion of the British Isles.

I got Rome a city of brick and left it marble.
The first Roman emperor, Gaius Octavian, was a rather bold ruler in his life, but he was not called Augustus from birth, which means "exalted by the gods". Therefore, the emperor, considering his name not sufficiently appropriate to him, later changed his name to Augustus. The number of days in this month has been increased by one: for centuries, there were 30 days, and now there are 31. This is because the ruler of the Roman Empire, Octavian Augustus, very much wanted his month to have the same number of days as in July, which received its name in honor of the great Julius Caesar.

Human life is like iron. If you use it in the case, it wears out, but if you do not use it, the rust eats it.
September is the "septem", the "seventh" month in the oldest of the Roman calendars. After the reform of Numa Pompilius, when other months were added to the calendar, September was given its former name. In Rome, the public, urban games were held in September. The September games included chariot races and, later, theatrical performances held in theaters

You should do everything, talk about everything, and think as if every moment might be your last
October is the "octavo", the "eighth" month in the oldest of the Roman calendars. In October, the end of the military campaigns was celebrated. On October 19, the warriors ' weapons were ritually cleaned and put aside for the winter. The army was assembled for review in the Circus Maximus, decorated with garlands of flowers. The Romans gathered with weapons and armor on the Aventine Hill and held a procession with torches and sacrificial animals.

To be able to enjoy a life lived means to live twice
November is the "nono", the "ninth" month in the oldest of the Roman calendars. In November, the Plebeian Games were held, which was an ancient Roman religious festival. Games (ludi) included both theatrical performances (ludi scaenici) and sports competitions for the purpose of entertaining the common people of Rome.

Only the first step is difficult
December is the "Decima", the "tenth" month in the oldest of the Roman calendars. In ancient Rome, Saturnalia was celebrated in December. Saturn was the god of agriculture, and in his honor, in December, when all agricultural work was finished, there were general celebrations. The festive entertainment lasted for six to seven days, and of course this time is associated with the winter solstice and the beginning of the sign of Capricorn (whose ruler in astrology is Saturn).
