The new layout functions much better now. We now have over 20 square feet of desk surface! And on the rare occasion we have a guest say overnight, the side chair folds out into a comfortable bed for one.
How do you get a desk to span 8 feet without a wall cleat or center support?
Plywood! Lots of glue and plywood. My wife calls it the tornado shelter!
I planned out the space in Sketchup to make sure all the components were appropriately sized.
