Logo Design
Hey Bear is "a brand for average hikers with above average passion for the outdoors." I partnered with the founders of Hey Bear, Garron and Dedra, to create their company logo, and a series of clothing designs for their launch.

Creative Direction
Hey Bear's personality is fun, like a hike with your friends on the west coast, and approachable, like a bear – minus the claws. From the beginning, it was important for Hey Bear's designs to match the professionalism of fellow outdoorsy brands, without compromising their unique, light-hearted spirit.
Research
We started the logo design process by looking at the logos and branding of other companies in their market. We also created a mood board of bear-like designs for inspiration. This research gave us a clear picture of the quality of designs, and graphic styles suitable for Hey Bear's logo.
Sketching
The name "Hey Bear" was inspired by hikers calling out "heyyyy bear!" through the woods when they're on a hike. For us folk on the west coast, we know that sometimes we find ourselves pretty close to these beautiful creatures, and sometimes it's better to let the bears know you're coming. When I was sketching out ideas for the logo, I wanted to illustrate a bear reacting to hearing its name called out in the woods.
Vectorizing
With the final logo concept selected, it was time to set up base camp, open Adobe Illustrator, and refine my sketch into a final logo that was ready for a its next adventure.
Logo Testing
It's good to test a logo, to make sure it will work well when we start putting it onto real things.
The Hey Bear logo was designed in a variety of formats, to ensure the logo would look good and function perfectly at different scales, on different backgrounds, and on different digital and physical products.
Results
The Hey Bear logo was a product of a very fun collaboration with the Hey Bear Team. We worked together, shared our thoughts and ideas, and uncovered a logo that perfectly fit their brand. After the logo was designed, we shifted our focus on apparel design, and called back a bunch of old bears to join the party.
