Romania's Football Teamwear Design

Finalist design proposal for "YOU DESIGN ROMANIA’S FOOTBALL TEAMWEAR" contest organized by the Romanian Football Federation for the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Romania’s football teamwear for the Tokyo 2020 (2021) Olympic Games needs to be a clear expression of the team’s traditions, recognizable at first sight through the specific yellow and seamlessly combined with symbols of the Japanese culture, all meant to create a memorable image for Romania at the Olympics.
FRONT

The limited edition of Romania’s football teamwear is inspired from Japan’s national costume, the kimono, an enduring symbol of traditional Nippon culture. The equipment’s design starts from a definitive graphic element - the overlapping “collar” - and adds Japanese accents perfectly integrated in the colors of Romania’s national flag.
The accent element – a pattern created using shibori, the traditional Japanese fabric dyeing technique – harmoniously completes Romania’s football teamwear, starting from the shirt and continuing with fluid lines on the short.
BACK

The name and number on the back of the shirt are designed to make each player easily recognizable on the field. This is why the chosen font is very strong, using letters that form the name of the player in a solid composition, all positioned on a red dot – an abstract and subtle reinterpretation of the Nippon flag.
