Nov. 30, 2000 - Seussical the Musical Broadway Premiere

Oh, the thinks you can think! Who’d have ever thunk that Dr. Seuss would have made it to Broadway, and that we’d be celebrating its 20th anniversary today!?!

FUN FACTS ABOUT SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL:

• ONE BOOK, TWO BOOK - Seussical the Musical is the fantastical family musical based on plot points from 20 different Dr. Seuss books! From "Horton Hears a Who" and "Green Eggs and Ham," to "Yertle the Turtle" and "Oh the Places You'll Go." Read a Dr. Seuss book today to celebrate!

• FINANCIAL FLOP - The show received almost universally negative reviews and closed after just 198 performances. Its financial losses are estimated at $11 million, making it one of the worst financial flops in Broadway history. Unlike the critics, we LOVED the show. Back in 2001 we were thrilled to see a young Aaron Carter as JoJo, Cathy Rigby as the Cat in the Hat, and Kevin Chamberlin in his Tony Award winning role as Horton.

• OH THE PLACES YOU'LL GO - Despite being a "flop" on Broadway, When the amateur rights to the show were released in 2004, hundreds of schools and community theatres jumped at the chance to produce it. Seussical has gone on to become on of Musical Theater International's top licensed musicals!
