The illustrations I made for DI FERRO E CUOIO start from the desire to create visual interludes to the story that in some way were enigmatic and decontextualized respect the reality of the facts, as often happens in the best David Lynch films, rupture and disturb elements inside the novel.
The boards painted entirely with a digital painting technique are characterized by a series of matter and masses layers that gradually reveal the shapes of the objects. Through the definition of shadows and light cuts on the painted surfaces i recreated the typical noir film atmospheres which had a great development especially in the United States around the forties and fifties and which represent my main inspiration mood. Take a look but don't try to find a logical sense and an explanation into my images because you will find it only in the author's head.
