Bay Area City Street sign projects 2012

This is my collection of street sign projects I started in 2012. I individually make a list and hunt down each street sign in a city(usually by bicycle or foot) and take a photo of the sign in person and then I stitch them together creating meaning and relationships that represent the fabric of a city. I have found this work deeply resonates with people who have lived in these cities.

As you can imagine a city is often a big place and many cities have as many as 80,000 streets so some of the projects do not include every street but I try my best.

Finished projects include:
Berkeley, CA (North, South, HIlls)
Albany, CA (Entire)
San Francisco, CA (Large sample)
Emeryville, CA
Alameda, CA
Walnut Creek, CA

In progress works currently shelved due to other design interests:
Oakland, CA
Concord, CA

Only one original of each finished project exists physically with the exception of one signed print sold to someone in San Francisco.

I'm interested in crowd sourcing future projects for other cities in the future with new technologies that exist today that did not in 2012.

San Francisco Street signs. Not a full representation of the 70,000 sf streets.
Downtown Berkeley and the first version and iteration of this project which spans several cities.
South Berkeley massive 35 x 50 inch project
North Berkeley and Hills
City Of Emeryville
City Of Alameda
City Of Walnut Creek
City of Albany; Berkeley's hat.
Work in progress City of Oakland.
Work in progress City of Concord, California. Thank you to department of public works in Concord California for letting me into their corp yard and giving me a tour of their signage, shops and spare signs.
