I am inspired not only by certain memories but also by the idea of memories and how we recall them.
My grandmother is one of the smartest people I know, yet over the past few years I have seen her memory deteriorate significantly with the onset of dementia. Today I look at the woman who is largely responsible for my being a competent human and I see her struggle with her own functionality. It does not matter that she cannot tell
me the specifics of a place because I can see her experiences writ- ten across her face. The noise that reveals itself upon closer inspec- tion of this image is meant to mimic the break down of memory and functionality that we experience as we age. More and more the ways her mind is failing her makes me consider the reliability of my own memory through this condition we call being. This work seeks to understand a perspective, position and accepted outcome through photographic imaging.
