Failure - HBR Summer 2022 Special Issue ILLUS

Back in February, I got contacted to make 5 illustrations for this year’s special summer issue! These are my first editorial illustrations to be printed- WOW!

I’m not extremely happy with how half of these illustrations turned out, but I was pretty burnt out after doing two back-to-back freelance gigs and needing to get an extension on this assignment and still finish them all fairly quickly… hope you enjoy!
The HBR Summer 2022 Special Issue Cover.
this one was about teaching leaders to create a healthy workplace environment for their employees that harbored growth through challenges and bouts with failure while being mindful to not create exhaustion or burnout. the illustration depicts a huge plush weight on a string that's being controlled by the boss as employees wait their turn to test themselves.
I got the idea for this illustration pretty quick. I thought of how in movies and such, there’s somehow always a built in self-destruct button, therefore having a fail safe for when the inevitable failure occurs.
I had to redo this illustration twice. I'm not too happy with the final outcome, but I liked the concept.
This one’s about getting the most out of your failures. Just because you messed up or didn’t get the outcome you wanted doesn’t mean you’re a total failure- and I mean that literally. There’s so much to learn from your mistakes to use them as stepping stones and blueprints for your journey towards success!

Failure is essential when it comes to success. I guess you can’t hit every nail squarely on the head!
THANK YOU!
