‘Ajumma’ Korean Portrait Linocut Prints

‘Ajumma’ Korean Portrait series Linocut Prints

Ajumma is a Korean word referring to women aged between 35-60ish. Normally used as a bit of derogatory term for women with kids, but there is also undeniable motherhood-like comfort that comes with that title.

Historically when Korea was extremely poor after the Korean war, Ajummas were often the breadwinners working in markets selling food and grocery to feed their families.

Ajummas represent strength and resilience and in my new series, I wanted to capture the beauty and life strength in them.

This Ajumma is carrying fishcake kabab(오뎅) and black pudding intestines(순대) which are staple Korean street food.
