Traditional Textile Design : BATIK

One of the ancient textile practise I explored while studying textile design was : BATIK. A traditional resist dye technique using wax resist (Beeswax + Paraffin wax) is a native practice of Indonesia.

However wax resists have been used in ancient Egyptian, Chinese and African practices as well for different rituals, using native materials and tools available at that time.

In this project I have used the visual cracked texture to recreate Vintage objects of music and communication. The aesthetic of the theme paired well with the craft to create a modern imagery of the ancient textile art.
Materials used : Poplin fabric, Paraffin wax, Beeswax and Reactive dyes (Hot dyeing).
