ESC. ✨ UI📱For this project, we were briefed to conceptualize a native application that uses AI (Artificial Intelligence) and AR (Augmented Reality) to solve a problem we identified from our habits based on a week of collecting data whilst in Lockdown.

The problem I decided to tackle was one’s ones need to escape, specifically in a more wholesome and productive way especially as opposed to using other mindless methods.

Therefore, ESC. makes use of different nature realms that once selected take over the entire interface in order to provide the user with the necessary ambience required (playable outside the app as well) to make them feel as though they are actually there. This is taken to another level with the Augmented Reality Experience, whereby the iPhone’s camera uses object detection and recognition to project the chosen ‘realm’ behind a window frame.

If the sounds of nature are not enough and the user wants to be take their mind off the stress of reality even more, there are various activities that can be completed inside the ‘realm’. 🧠
🗒 The activities are suggested based off the user’s mood check in. This is one form of input data. The second form of input data is when the user updates their mood after completing an activity. This allows the system to know which activities have the best stress reducing effect. All of this is stored in a log the user can reflect on. The log is also the way in which the application knows which activities and realms to suggest, which gets better as the system learns over time.

Another form of data gathering that informs which activities are suggested which takes place in the background is the iPhone’s built in microphone measuring the user’s respiratory rate (how many breaths taken per minute) before and after the activity.
