ARTIST STATEMENT: Output 1 "Lasagna"
What: Lasagna is a non-representational piece made with acrylic paint on a one-eighth illustration board. It’s not a picture of lasagna, nor is it a picture of anything. The artist would like for the viewers to take it at face value and not overthink it. Whatever it reminds you of and whatever it makes you feel, that’s what it is.

Why: Originally there wasn’t supposed to be any title for the piece but ended up being called Lasagna because of its similarities to a gruesome yet familiar image. As a completely impromptu artwork with elements decided by chance, it gains meaning as the process goes on though it’s hard to tell about what exactly. It focuses on the process more than the final output and is proof of being able to find one’s way without knowing what’s going to happen next.

How: For the two-piece series of non-representational art, a division of elements of art had to be done. The element pairs we’re randomly picked by a simple bot. All the songs used for each art study was also randomly picked, but using a close-your-eyes-and-point method. To the song, "Witch Pussy" by Clown Core, the process starts with a line from the left side to the right that randomly curves to the music. Getting the paint onto the “canvas” was hard because the materials the artist had were old and lost their quality. After doing the sketch, the artist makes do with the shape and tries to create some type of form with the paint that was available. Lots of regrets were felt during the making of Lasagna, because “making do” isn’t always going to have a good outcome.
