Ascension/ Walking Exhibition

ASCENSION.
an introduction to Biophilia
WHAT:
'Ascension' is an exhibition that hopes to inform people more about what Biophilia is all about, and how each of our senses plays a huge part in differentiating each room and building you visit apart, through materials.

WHO:
We aim to target anyone who wish to understand more how they could emotionally react to their surroundings.

WHY:
As this is a collaborative project, my group mates and I felt that most of us would have heard of terms such as "sustainability" at least once in their lives, but not the term "biophilia", and how people could easily twist the idea of a "biophilic design" as a marketing strategy without using the term properly, thus doing a disservice to the term. Hence the exhibition, to allow people to experience what it feels like.

HOW:
As this is an actual exhibition, visitors would get the opportunity to walk through a path that we have created, which incorporates the four senses. Sight, Sound, Smell, and Touch. The reason why we have decided to exclude Taste is due to the fact that as this is the COVID-19 period, we hope to keep things as sanitary as possible.

Using projection art, we would show images of greeneries while playing a streaming river in the background, spraying a scented smell in the room so that visitors could smell something natural and lastly, scattering twigs and dried leaves for them to step on as they walk through the path. As they walk through the path, they would see a panel of what looks like real greeneries, fake plant tiles, and a poster that explains how their senses affects their judgement and reaction.

Main Poster that combines both exhibitions together, "I Was Robbed" and "Ascension":
Ascension's poster about the senses:
TOUCH
Touching something gives us the opportunity to decode what it is and get an intimate feel of its shape and texture.
It is the first sense that we develop and almost instantly allows us to distinguish between natural and synthetic materials.

SIGHT
Our eyes are the windows that shape our realities. Sight enables us to perceive our surroundings and allows us the ability to interpret our experiences in our own personal way.

SMELL
Closely linked to our emotions through fragrances and scents, smell conveys a variety of emotions and perceptions, such as desire, vitality, and relaxation.

SOUND
Listening to an old song allows a person to reminisce about the past, taking the person back in time.
Sound is often connected to our memories and therefore, different sounds hold a different meaning and value to each person.
