Portrait of Hilma af Klint

Portrait of Hilma af Klint, Original Linocut Print

I designed this Portrait of Hilma af Klint for ‘Beyond the Visible creative brief’ by Little White Lies magazine.

Hilma af Klint is an incredible artist who began creating radically abstract paintings in 1906, they were like little that had been seen before: bold, colorful, and untethered from any recognizable references to the physical world.
Her powerful ground breaking abstract work came way before Mondrian and Kandinsky. And it saddens me that her art didn’t get the exposure it very much deserved.

So for this portrait, I wanted to capture her as the confident, powerful artist facing straight into the viewers while her inventive shapes and geometries often featured in her abstract art shape up the outside world which we peek through the window.
