Ramen Fight Night Poster

To advertise the Ramen Fight Night competition, my original "Alphanoods" typeface was used in the title. As for the rest of the poster, I chose to use a bold san serif to contrast the thin free flowing lines of Alphanoods. Also, I felt the use of a bold san serif throughout would ground the design as a whole due to the dynamic composition. For this design, I chose to fill in the strokes of Alphanoods, I felt that it helped the title stand out versus having it outlined. However, after filling in the letters, I lost the depth of the individual noodles (lines) in my original design which appear to fold over each other within each letter, it became flat. My solution was to create shadows above each line to not lose the depth and help keep the typeface as close to the original as possible, I was happy with the outcome.
Ramen Fight Night is an event I created is a culinary pop up event in which three chefs compete in four rounds to create four different types of traditional Japanese ramen. Each attendee purchases a ticket, and will vote in each round to determine the final winner. I drew inspiration from "Street Fighter" a Japanese fighting game which is popular in Japanese culture. This led me to verbiage decisions such as "round one" "round two" etc.. Or, one chef "VS" another. For the composition, I drew inspiration from traditional Japanese writings by putting some text vertical along the sides of the poster, and text blocks staggered across the page with a small width to imitate Japanese scrolls. I also conducted some research on Japanese graphic design, and drew inspiration from the use of minimal yet bold colors, which is why I stuck with just a few colors in my design.
