St. Joseph's Institution | Heritage Gallery | Missio 1852

With the Latin word ‘Missio’ for Mission, we dedicate this gallery to the many religious and lay people, past, present and future, whose mission is to continue to build SJI. In 1852, it was through Fr Jean-Marie Beurel’s missionary commitment that SJI was founded. The commissioning to establish SJI by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, required courage, zeal and sacrifice, graced by God’s generosity.

Grand Entrance
We draw our inspiration from the Singapore Art Museum’s Building (SAM), once the home of the Singapore’s first Catholic boys’ school, the St. Joseph’s Institution.

The neo-classical architectural details such as the pillars, arches and louver door panels are strategically scattered around the gallery space, coupled with vibrant stained glass elements to provide a contemporary approach for this new space depicting your rich history and legacy. This is the pivotal design language for this gallery.

Design Elements
Contemporary stained glass elements using the hues of green to represent the SJI identity. The stained glass element compliments the school library and also nudges the memories of SJIans about the stained glass window from the chapel that was lost during World War ll.

The emblem of the Brothers, a five-pointed star, the Signum Fidei, the Sign of Faith is embedded into the stained glass arch.

Featured Artefacts
To keep the consistent design language, the display cases are also designed as arch-shape, enhancing the showcase features for the two important artefacts, namely the grandfather clock & the featured painting.

Window Display
A captivating, 2-way window display that gives a preview into the gallery from the school library.

Interchangeable Display Corner
Designed with the idea of ease of figuration and temporary display solutions. This corner is carefully utilized with the consistent design language of the whole gallery.

Computer Aided Visuals & Details
To brainstorm ideas with end user for the best outcome.
