Editorial illustration on "Milan 2030" for Il Bullone. Il Bullone it's a newspaper made by news professionals (journalist, art directors, reporters) in collaboration with young people that live the everyday experience of a chronic illness.
The article I worked on is about the future of Milan, a complex topic in this very moment, the city were on a steady path of since 2010 but since the pandemic a lot of it need to be rethinked: housing cost, job markets, work-life balance, mental health, inclusion and so on. I decided to use a ironic approach based on the double meaning of most of the elements of the illustration: is the iconic orange tram submerged in plants because the girl lives in a typical instagram setting with plenty of monstera plants and other trendy tropical plants, or because of climate change and global warming that made Milan a tropical city instead of a continental temperate one?
Does she live in a tipical milanese tramway because this is a microhouse with a minimalistic approach like the ones that get featured on Flow, or because the housing cost got so much worse?
I don't have the replies to this questions but I want to be hopeful, and the piece that accompanies the illustration is also on the hopeful side, so let's hope for a better future.
