National Geographic Cover
I worked on this project keep my Photoshop skills fresh, and to try new techniques. I decided it would be interesting to try an create a National Geographic cover. I thought that such an iconic magazine cover would be a fun way to stay creative, while still adhering to a style and brand.
The challenge for me was to create a captivating image for a historical period. Few people get excited while reading about ancient history, so I knew the cover had to be appealing to the eye and filled with energy.
For the composition of the piece I wanted the head of the long ship in the foreground to be the focal point of the piece. This allowed the viewer's eyes to rest on the subject of the “article” after reading the title. Adding the lighting storm to the piece added the extra bit of tension and energy I was trying to evoke from the image.
