This is Mr. Rozali Abdul Rani or more known as Pak We, a Tetuang maker from Temerloh, Pahang.

Tetuang is one of the Malays traditional methods for communication that has been used for a long time ago before we reached modernization. Usually, the person in charge will blow this device in case of emergency or giving a signs to inform something to the masses.

It is made from the horn of a male buffalo because of its hollow shape. The female horn is not suitable for making Tetuang as it’s solid and instead being used as the holder of kris, machete, or knife.

According to Pak We, he started to make Tetuang in 1996 after he accidentally found this device during his expedition to Gunung Stong, Kelantan. He also stated that there’s a similar device like Tetuang outside of the country that is known as Shofar; traditionally used by the Jewish for their religious purposes.

Nowadays, Tetuang is rarely seen as it’s not widely use except for the gimmick in Royal occasion or any other formal activities. Plus, it is not easy to blow this thing as it requires special technique. I did try to blow Tetuang but it turns out sounding like my own gas bomb.
